Al's Super Duper New and Improved High-Tech Newfangled Vitamin Enriched Personal World Wide Web Page

Hi there. I'm Al. Also known as Alan Little, also known as Darguz. I live in Battle Creek, Michigan, just about two miles from Kellogg's Cereal City.

I was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan and lived there until I was 11, when our family moved to Bell Buckle, Tennessee. I graduated from Highland Academy in Portland, Tennessee in 1979, and attended Southern Missionary College (now called Southern Adventist University) in Collegedale (near Chattanooga) for 3 semesters, majoring in Computer Science.

I joined the Navy in 1982 and sailed the seven seas (well, two or three of them, anyway) until 1990. In February, 1985 I got stationed in Hawaii, and stayed there when I left the Navy. In September, 1999 I moved back to Michigan.

I've been self-employed since June 1994. I mainly do Web development and programming. I have been programming computers for over 29 years, and consider myself a battle veteran.

I enjoy writing, composing, and singing. I've written a few short stories and vignettes, and some poetry. The poems "Grace Like the Sun" and "Grace Like the Moon" were published in the poetry anthology "Rippling Waters" in 1996.

One of the greatest things my mother taught me was to enjoy reading. I've read quite far and wide, and a great deal of my practical knowledge today has been self-taught in this way. I've been a big science fiction fan since reading A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle, at the age of 10. I met Ms. L'Engle once and asked her how her last name was pronounced. She replied, "Just like it's spelled, of course!" And I've been a fantasy fan since reading The Hobbit at age 17. Unfortunately, I never met Mr. Tolkein.

I have a list of recommendations of science fiction books I've read, if you're interested. I'll be putting up a fantasy list soon.

For the past couple of years I've been maintaining a list of errors on the New Scientist web site. I like the site, but sloppy editing bugs me.

This page is a work in progress -- really, there is more to my life! I'll be adding to it as I have time. I appreciate you stopping by. I try to be somewhat entertaining; I hope you have enjoyed yourself and will check back from time to time to see what other weirdness I've come up with!
