Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano on the island of Hawaii. Its peak, 13,796 feet, is the highest point in the state of Hawaii; measured from the ocean floor, it is the tallest mountain in the world. The name means "White Mountain", so called because the peak is often covered in snow.
